Changing oil this weekend. I use an electric oil changer utlizing the long plastic hose going down into dip stick tube to oil pan. The engines are 350's, Boat is 3227 Convertible. Changer came with a hook up for attaching to the top of dip stick tube. Heard the dip stick tube runs to bottom of pan? Is that true? Has anyone used that type of hook up? And does it do a good job? Should I just keep doing what I've been doing.

Thanks in advance.

Better to ask this on the engines forum. Not really a Carver issue.

My wife bought me one of them 3 gallon oil suckers and the bottom of the
pail split at a seam last week. 5 months and it went to crap.
I removed the top with the pump and installed it on a tougher 5 gallon
pail and it is too top heavy. Now I know why they installed it on a 3
gallon pail, it is too top heavy on a 5 gallon pail.

Ken, hook up your pump to dip stick tube & start pumping. You may not get 100% of old oil out but it's as good as it gets. Doing it this way since '76......never lost an engine yet !!!!
BTW; never replaced an oil related part since '76 !

i use one of those electric pumps on my 350's and don't have any problems. just make sure you warm up the engines first and be patient as it'll take several minutes to do it's thing.

Ken,
I've got the same boat and I'm assuming that you have Crusaders as well. Sucking it through the dipstick will work fine. Near the end just work the tube up and down a little to make sure you get as much as possible. You should get about 5.5 quarts.

I can screw an adapter to the top of the dip stick tube or slide the thin plastic tube down the dipstick into the pan. I prefer the latter as it doesn't suck oil up inside the dipstick tube which makes reading the level after I change the oil difficult.
