I have late model Mercruiser 5.0MPIs, so it's really easy to drain the water out of the blocks (raw water cooled). To refill the block with nontox coolant, should I / could I use one of the coolant hoses at the thermostat?
I might as well confess that I did this last year. I took the starboard side hose on the thermostat housing and dumped in coolant. No ill effects. Of course, last year we did not get a hard freeze.
Is this method sufficient? Presumably, draining the block gets you part of the way there. Also, if re-filling the block directly, how much needs to go in to make the block "full" enough?
