They have come a long way and are now very stiff. For casual use they work fine, if you want performance you may be disappointed. On a boat though, they are an excellent compromise.
I got a Sea Eagle inflatable SUP for my daughter. It is VERY stiff. The spec is 15 PSI. I get it to like 12-13 PSI and and it's like a rock. They have a couple models from casual general-purpose use to more speed / distance models.
It stores in a backpack-like duffel bag that goes in a locker. She does fine on it, but I'm too heavy (over spec) and regularly fall off.
I purchased this one for my daughter and it's built very well. I like the fact that not only is it a SUP but they give you a seat to use as a sit down kayak. No complaints so far.
