I was talking to a marina today that said I would need a Port Everglades permit if I keep my boat at their facility. They said it's $50 per person on an annual basis.

I don't question this information, but is there a web link where I can find out more about it?

Thanks,

Esteban

What marina is that? I don't know of any marina located within the ports at Port Everglades.
Did you question why?
Permit per person?

lol

It's a simple and small Sea Ray 260. I'm new to the area (from Virginia) and looking for dry storage marina. I'll be coming from Weston.

If you have to go threw the port entrance there is a guarded gate under homeland security for entrance into the port. You will have to have a security badge issued to gain entrance or you will be sitting there for a while to answer all there questions. Port Everglades is a very busy port and anyone who works in the port has to show ID at entry. Right after 911 happened a number of businesses inside the port went bankrupt because of the public access was such a pain getting in they had to move or go out of business. I think you have the right link.

Thanks for the info. I found another 3 marinas that fit my needs: Banyan Way (outside rack), American Offshore (inside) and Thunderboat (inside). I'm leaning towards Thunderboat or American Offshore. If anyone can recommend any others (inside rack storage) I would welcome the information.

Thanks,

Esteban

Nautically Challenged... if I may ask, where do you keep your W/craft?

Esteban

Kept my Searay at Thunderboat for many years. Was always very happy.

Hola Esteban,
Thunderboat and American Offshore are the same company. I used to keep my boat inside at Thunderboat. At one point they raised their rates over 30% overnight and changed many rules like gate opening at night. Then they started to sell boats so the work racks were difficult to find. So I moved out.
If I had a choice between those 2, I would choose American Offshore. It's closer to the ocean anyway.
I recommend you place yourself on the list at Harbour Towne where I am now. It may take a few months to be called but it's worth the wait. You can visit it and you will see the difference. Besides at $3 a gallon of gas, you will save a lot. Harbour Towne is at least 15 minutes closer to the Intercoastal.
I did not even mention the little bridge. That little bridge under US1 is a pain. Be very careful during strong currents.
Fell free to ask any question. I have been in this area every weekend for the last 5 years.
You can also ask Bajanbum who has his boat right across Thunderboat at Intermarine.

Thank you Harry. I tried to PM you but it didn't work. My email is estebanjnunez at gmail dot com I would love the opportunity to ask you some questions.

Thanks,

Esteban

Esteban, I also keep my boat at Thunderboat.
Harry is right about the three marinas.
Thunderboat is pretty good, but it is about 15 minutes west of Harbortowne.
American Offshore is about 10 minutes closer but has a really low bridge to clear.
We have been on the list for Harbortowne for a long time, but it is really expensive there.
Also, gas is usually 30-50 cents cheaper at Thunderboat.

Harry is right. If you can get into Harbour Towne, do it. Much nicer marina. Also, from Thunderboat to the ICW is about 40 minutes. Going under that US1 bridge can be tedious, especially when you meet people coming in the opposite direction that don't know who should have the right of way. The current is strong one way or the other depending on the tide. Only one boat can pass through at a time. 40 minutes going and 40 minutes coming isn't worth the cheaper gas at Thunderboat. In the year I was across the channel at Intermarine, I think I saw gas being bought there once. There was somebody else here with a Rinker cruiser (I think) that used to store a Thunderboat. I can't remember who.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to start with AOM and see what happens from there.

All in all. You can't beat the scenery coming down the river though. Especially the last 15 minutes. All kinds of huge yachts and shipyards. Harbour Towne has a nice service station where you can pull-up and buy last minute stuff. Even icecream and drinks. And the guys that work there are courteous; well at least in my experience.
