I've been going to Potters Cove in Narragansett Bay for a number of years. I don't think I have ever seen it as busy as this past Saturday. The inner cover was packed and almost every boat was rafted to someone else. Even the outer harbor was full including some huge raft-ups. But I must say that, for the most part, the crowd was pretty subdued. Other than too many teens on a boston whaler, not much to comment on.
One thing that is distinct is the increase over past years of LEO's. We saw two different Portsmouth Harbor Patrol boats as well as the CG all day long. In fact, the HP was regulary approaching moorings to make sure the occupant was, in fact, the owner. If not, it was a full safety inspection followed by the boats departure from the mooring.
I think this increased inforcement is the reason for the increased crowds. More people anchoring rather than jumping on a mooring. At least we had one beautiful day because Sunday was not pretty...
