The boat,a 28 Ft Fairbanks, built in 1988, powered by 2 3.7 L MC's on Alpha drives. It's a low profile command bridge built by a now defunct BC company around the time of Expo.
The depth sounder, a Lowrance LMS 350A USED to work to a Thru Hull 192 Khz Transducer. That is mounted thru the hull in a built in recess about 3 ft fwd of the stern. I also hung a puck type out the window to prove the Sounder was not defunct. The thru hull is bad, sounder is good.
Fair enough, the boat is on blocks for service and it's time to change the offending transducer. Never thought it would be an issue...
Here's the problem; I can't find a transducer that fits the hole. The Lowrance ones all have much smaller shafts (threads) and would not properly fill the current cutout.
The recess it fits is about 1.25 - 1.5" deep from the underside and about 3.5" in diameter. The visible part is about 3.125" as seen from below.
On the inside the threads are about 2.5" diameter and the nut holding the shaft in place is about 4" diameter. I see about 3" above the hull. The cable has a mark of W-0013 and the plug looks original and fits Lowrance gray connectors, which the LMS 350 A uses. It does not look like an added plug, it looks stock.
Has anyone any idea of the origin of this transducer or any ideas for getting past this problem? The best I find available is the Lowrance TH-NB, bronze Thru Hull but much smaller threads and diameter ? We don't want it to fall out and we don't want water to leak in either!
