Contra Costa County was busy pulling some delelict boats from the San Joaquin River last week. I took these shots returning from the boat Sunday evening.

In addition to the crane they use for pulling the wrecked or abandoned boats, the salvors contain and remove any hazards like oil or fuel leaks. They also have a diver and in this case a flatbed truck to haul out the old mess.

The word is that the salvage outfit hired by Contra Costa found this one along Webb Tract but couldn't finish the job on Friday. They were also working some salvage in or from Fisherman's Cut. The rig was tied up for the weekend not far from Delta Harbor Marina (in the background) on Andrus Island in Sacramento County.

A flatbed truck was needed to haul this one away. Because the nearest road that could handle the truck was in Sacramento County, the wreck was dragged across the river and tied up on a levee at the mouth of Sevenmile Slough.

Nasty looking little sailboat, but it was probably a decent Delta boat back in the day.

The plan was to have the wreck hauled out by truck today, so it may be gone by now.

UD, for those liveaboards, they have a routine similar to an unsafe house on land: first they have to put an "unsafe to occupy" notice on the vessel along with a deadline for the occupants to vacate. Then the authorities have to return to see if liveaboards have vacated. Often the "vessel" is gone to some place like Mayberry and becomes Sacramento County's problem. Or the liveaboards have vacated the vessel and the county then starts the procedure to remove the vessel. This takes months before they can hire a salvage company to actually remove it.

Takes lots of time and money to rid the Delta of these derelicts!

So with all the salvage efforts afoot, I guess we can expect Mayberry to grow even more this summer. Soon they'll have to incorporate as a village.

Yes, an waters within Sac County are vulnerable until Sac County passes an ordinance with associated funding similar to CoCOCo's and SJC's.

Maybe we should take up a collection or something!

To whom do I make out my check, and how fast can they get over to Mayberry?
