Is there a way I can drain my holding tank on land? My marina "forgot" to pump it out this past fall, and I just found that out, as I was trying to replace it with a new tank... I would rather do this on land, but I cant seem to get the boat over to the pump out dock. So I need to get it drained somehow. Its only 17 gal, but that still equates to way more weight then I'm lifting out of the bilge. I imagine I need some kind of self priming pump that will screw into the pumpout fitting. Gah. Maybe I'm just better off waiting for the pumpout. Dammit.

Had to do this with mine at the end of the season last year... I used my Shop Vac It worked but wear gloves and figure out a way to dump it when you are done. Then throw away the filter and hose the vac out. Not too bad of a job but smelly lol

Pour a bottle of Oderless into it and let sit for 2 days it will hardly have any odor. Dispose of the mess the proper way down the nearest toilet or septic system.

Disposing of the "contents" is one problem, getting it out of the tank is another. I use a simple "utility" impeller pump from Home Depot, appropriate PVC fittings to fit my pumpout fitting, and an old garden hose (yes it works). Others have used a 12v "macerator pump". Either one works.

There are commercial tank trucks for porta pottys which will come to you and pump out for a fee. They usually also rent out public porta pottys for events.

Marina actually had a diaphram pump that I attached to one of those screw in adapters, and pumped into a 5 gal bucket, which I hauled to the toilet. Not pleasant, but successful!
