Raw Water Pump, am I getting screwed?

I am having to replace the raw water pump on my starboard 7.4 Merc. I just had the same pump replaced last May.

1> Why did it barely last a year?

2> My guy is quoting me parts cost of $662, i briefly looked online and these pumps seem to be half the cost. Is he ordering factory direct?

3> Am I getting screwed on this parts price?
