I am involved in planning a rendesvous for my club next summer and we are kicking around possible places to go. Someone suggested Red Bank sinc eit is fairly close and there are 2 hotels for those with small boats or who want to come by car.

My questions are regarding the Navesink River.

Are there any issues for boats drawing 5 feet and does it have 5mph speed restrictions like the Shrewsbury?

Thanks

Going into Red Bank I would suggest mid tide and rising for the 5 foot draft boats. There are plenty of deep draft boats back there by the Molly Pitcher etc.. There was a tight spot off Barley Point, and Barley Reach approaching the Oceanic bridge but other than that, no problem. Of course speed is something to watch when close to marinas, anchored boats and bridges but there are spots you can make time back there.
If you like I can send you the Garmin tracks I have from back in 2005 and 2007. You can use these as a reference as long as you realise this is a reference. PM me with an email address and I'll send them along. I know one other R.O. used them as a reference and was happy with them.

All in all we had a grat time at Red Bank and would do it again in a heart beat. Plenty of good places to eat and if you rent a car you can go to the Atlantic beaches etc..

Here is an excerpt of the charted area, I've circled the more shallow spots. Some spots are narrow and a bit dicey when the tide is running but we had no issues over all and we pull 3.5 feet.

Thanks Dan.

No need for the tracks yet. We're proposing places for our membership to vote on so we're in the early stages. Just looking to see if it is feasible for the sail people and the big guys.

Thanks

How many boats? In the past, Moly Pitcher has had very limited transient slips available. You may want to call now just to confirm it's even a possiblity based on the number of boats you may expect.

We really like Red Bank & used Dan’s ‘tracks’ as an aid- didn’t need them but it did add to the sense of security.
We stayed at Irwin marine because Molly would not allow dogs – I would not call it a resort but they were nice, had a pool and was a block walk to town. If it your liking, the town has great shopping & restaurants

There are ton's of great Restuarants and shops in the town of Red Bank. If you have a few cars or even if you want to stop for lunch by boat on the way in, just West of the Oceanic bridge, in Rumson, there is a great local restuarant with some of the best burgers in NJ...I can see that Dan's track above is heading in there....some famous locals have been know to show up there....In the USA....

Dom indeed we were there for Burgers! That was a dink outting.

We took a cab to Red bank from the Channel Club this past summer. There were allot of antique stores a a bunch of restaurants. Allot of the stores were closed.

Thanks to all.

This could be up to 10 boats and 3 are 55 Vikings and one sail boat. Sounds like space and draft may be concerns.

Since we are based near East Rockaway Inlet, we are trying to consider locations that can accomodate the big guys and members who have smaller boats.

Draft will not be an issue. The Navesink is being dredged at this moment. Bob
