I am planning on my annual oil change on the Volvo Pentas 496's ( i think HO's just cant remember). This is my first attempt as I am a new owner. The boat is 1.5 HRs away and I left the manuals in it...

Does anyone know the Oil and Filter Recomendations? I recall hearing the Volvos were very picky about the type of oil they take... Thanks in advance!
 
Congratulations on your new boat! I have a 2003 3860 with the Volvo 8.1Gxi's and they call for Volvo 30W synthetic oil with an alternative for 5W50 synthetic oil. I've always used Mobil One 5W50 and haven't had any problems (650 hours). I've used different brands of oil filters over the years but stick with the higher capacity (longer) ones. But I like to stay away from oil filters with the rough grip edge because on my engines the filters are tight up to some wiring and I was concerned that the rough surface might chafe the wires.
