When replacing power steering pump which one do you go with the automotive one of the marine is there a difference other than having to pay big Buck for a Marine one. This is for a 5.7 mercruiser

Never knew there was such an animal for marine usage ! Three boats & all have been fluid & cable.

Bob, it's only used with out drives as far as I know. My last out drive boat with twins used a power steering pump on one of the engines only.

No difference. It's a GM "Saginaw" pump. I think they were changed over to Metric fasteners, but that was probably 20-years ago or so. You need a Puller to get the pulley off and a Presser to re-install it. Pumps usually come with a Presser and the auto supply should be able to loan you a Puller. If they can furnish the Presser too, go ahead. Chances are the Presser in their kit will have a thrust bearing and the one that comes with the pump will only have a nut grating against a washer. Takes enough force to remove and install that you'll appreciate the thrust bearing.

Yeah, they're all the same but different mountings. Pulley alignment may also have to be adjusted (in/out)

If your pulley is at all rusted get a new pulley. My Mercruiser is almost all SAE nuts and bolts except for the PS pump which is metric. Might be a good time to flush out the system of old PS fluid.

I used an automotive. Hard part is finding one that has the hydraulic line fitting pointing in the right direction. One for a 1990 Chevrolet Truck C2500 3/4ton was closest for my 1989 5.7. I think a NAPA NSP 818354F.
Save the regulator from the old pump. The pressures are a little different. Definitely paint the pump. Autos come with cheap paint. Getting pulley off was no problem with loaner tool from auto store.
