Hi all,

We cruised from Ottawa to Kingston during the last week of August. Fortunately, we picked what ended up being the best week of the summer weather wise. It was a great trip, we met some great folks along the way and only had a couple of engine problems (ones I was able to fix). We had stops at Burritt's Rapids, Smiths Falls and Chaffey's Locks.

Here are a few pictures from along the way.

Hey bcatlin:
The Rideau is a nice trip...We did it from the St Lawrence to Montreal to Ottawa and Kingston and home...Tons of locks though...Have you ever considered doing the Trent?...It's an excellent waterway, with tons of sights...Done it 3 times and am considering it for next year...The last time was 2 years ago and we trailered to Buckhorn and then cruised home..The liftlocks are an almost must...The cost to trailer was only $750.00...Cheaper than cruising...

Hey Carver,

We do enjoy the Rideau, but really look forward to doing the Trent some day. A guy I work with did the Montreal/Ottawa/Kingston loop this year as well, he really enjoyed it. We kept our boat in Manotick for a couple of months this summer so it was closer to home for us. It's back in the 1000 Islands for the fall. Luckily, the water levels have stabilized this year.

We have the boat up for sale now, we're looking for something a little smaller. The kids want to ski and wakeboard etc. so a trip up the Trent will have to wait for a while.

Water levels in the St Lawrence have droped quite a bit over the last 3 days...

Really? I left our boat on Labour Day Monday and thought everything would be OK. I'll be back through this weekend. I hope I left enough slack in the lines!

Last year I considered putting blocks under the boat in September...I could have just stored it for the winter at the dock :o)

Thanks for the warning.

Ya didn't see Squirt on your travels did ya Bcat? ;-)

Looks like you had better weather than we did. Even though we were soaked and miserable for 10 days it was still better than going to work! ;-)

Hey Rick,

Nope, no sign of Squirt. I told my kids to keep an eye out though. Weather was great. We had about 10 minutes of rain and hardly a wind along the way. The trip was very quiet too. Most boats we saw were on Monday at Jones Falls. We locked through with 7 other boats and that included a kayak.

PS...want to buy a boat :o)

No, do you? ;-) Ours is for sale too!

Got an e-mail last night from a fella in the park who's spotted Squirt a few times. He's still in the same general area. Lori's been chatting online with a woman who specializes in finding lost pets. She's recommended we not feed him for a week to ten days. This will draw him to someone else for food and hopefully they can capture him. She said you usually only get one chance to get your hands on them once they get free and we've had that chance and blew it.

Glad you had a nice trip. If all goes well we'll start building our trawler in the spring but right now looking more like summer we'll start. I don't absolutely have to sell my boat but it'd be nice to get it out of the way.

Yeah, I saw your's is for sale. We're hoping to sell, but it doesn't really matter to us either. We made the decision and we'll see what happens. It was funny, I forgot to bring along the For Sale sign when we left for Kingston, so our 14yr old son (who normally wouldn't put pen to paper during the summer) went below and was quite for about an hour. When he comes back up, he's made a 'For Sale' - full colour and everything! He wants us to sell and buy quick ;o)

Good for Squirt. He sounds like he's a survivor!

Rick,

While I was out picking up lunch, I was reading a local paper and saw an artical on a lady here in Ottawa who does Pet Rescues! Check out petdetective.ca She may be able to help you out.

Hey Bcat, nice pictures. If we were on schedule with our trip we may have met up with you coming down the river, but alas, I was no where near my schedule on entering the Rideau. Maybe we will meet again next season.

So..... What boat are you thinking of getting when yours sells???

Shel

Thanks Shel, the pictures did turn out great this year.

I did keep an eye out for you along the way, but it was a pretty quiet trip boat wise.

I'm looking for a newer (2006 & 2007) 22 to 23 foot bowrider. Looking at Four Winns, Chapparal or something similar.
