We're planning a trip to Rock Hall this upcoming season over the 4th of July holiday. Any recommendations on what marina to transient at? I was on marinas.com and thought Sailing Emporium looked nice. Amenities such as a pool and nice showers are preferable.

TIA,

Greg

Many choices. We always took a transient slip at Haven Harbor (full service, pool, free bikes) but were never there on the 4th. HH is a good walk from town and others are closer.

Wondering if one/some marinas have a better view of the fireworks than others as well?

Greg

Sailing Emporium is nice but a bit removed from the small "downtown" area so it's a bit of a hike if walking. Rock Hall Landing just across the way is nice and a much easier walk to the main street, but you might get some party noise from nearby Waterman's Restaurant. On the backside (Swan Creek), Haven Harbor is said to be -- and looks to be -- nice, although we haven't actually stayed there. Last I heard, Haven Harbor runs the shuttle around town. The marina we like most is Osprey Point, even though it's a bit pricey. Good onsite Inn/Restaurant, too. Haven't been to Rock Hall for the 4th, so can't say about fireworks visibility. Watermans and Bay Wolf Restaurants are worth a look if you're there longer.

You might be too late for reservations at some of these...

I stopped at sailing emporium a year ago, nice facility but indeed a long walk to town as the road goes around quite a bit

On the way back we took a short cut along the shoreline and ended up with mud up to our knees:)

My vote is for North Point Marina. You're right under the fireworks and close to the Harbor Shack resturant. Still a walk to downtown though. Pool with a view of the bay, clean showers. Good folk running it, Joe and Lori.

Great view of fireworks from The Sailing Emporium
with patriotic music played during the display.
Free bikes to go into town but reserve early as this is Rock Hall's biggest day.

Downtown marinas are the best for fireworks, and we have stayed at Haven Harbor, and used the shuttle. It is a 3 car shuttle, and makes the round thru out the evening. Good pool, and small rest. there. Harbor gets crowded, with waterman, and boat handling becomes a show in itself.
Last yr. our club went to Lankford Marina, off the Chester. Quiet, and they also run a 14per. bus back and forth to RH. Nice pool, but no rest. there. They made excellent trips to see the fireworks, and other activities in RH. Last 4th was Watdermans' Day in RH. If it is in 2012,,make reserv. early.

We're leaning toward Osprey Point or Haven Harbour. We'll have our children (9 & 13) along, so we're thinking we'll stay outside of the harbor due to the potential noise and traffic from Waterman's and the Harbor Shack. Both Osprey and Haven Harbour look very nice and have the amentities we're interested in. They don't seem to far from town either. Hopefully we'll have good fireworks visibilty from which ever one of these two marinas we choose.

Any additional thoughts or comments on my thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

We typically watch the Rock Hall fireworks from the anchorage near Haven Harbor and Osprey Point. From that point you are not right under the fireworks, but the visibility is still good.

If you want a truly unique experience you should try Stoney Creek (which is just across the bay from Rock Hall). All the communities on both sides of Stoney Creek set off their own fireworks displays and they all compete with each other. We anchor just inside the bridge, which puts us right in the middle of dozens of displays that last for a couple of hours. Everyone we have ever taken to the "Battle of Stoney Creek" have been impressed.

It's not impossible to walk from OP/HH to the main harbor area. We keep folding bikes on board, and they make it easy to get around.

Dusty mentioned Waterman's Day -- no kidding, BIG crowd! The docking contest is a serious hoot!! (They, of course, don't worry about a ding here or there on the rubrail.)

Have stayed at many of the marina's being discussed here. All are good but if it is the fireworks you are interested in and still be close to town I would only stay at Rock Hall Landing. folks are nice and it is fairly quiet, even next to Watermans because you are on the back side. Any marina is going to have its share of partying on the 4th. But the noise wont keep you up to late.

Haven Harbor and Osprey point are my choice when it is just a visit to RH and not the 4th of July.

Thanks Van. I just found out over the weekend that a few boats from our marina are planning the trip and staying at Rock Hall Marina. Plan B now in the works :).

+1

We have stayed there many times for the 4th of July. Joe and Lori are great and you can't beat the view!
