Rule 1500 Bilge pumps

I have two separate breaker for each pump on board I have a locking breaker on each of the float switch circuits and then a standard breaker for each of the manual switch circuits the pump I just replace had an internal issue causing it to draw way to much power I cut the wiring right at the pump and spliced the new pump to the wires at this point now everything is working perfectly. This said it does have a long output hose that does draw a bit of water back in when it turns off. I have a check valve which I can install to help prevent this but I don't think there is enough water to be the issue. The new pump runs without an issue I can run it at length and it doesn't throw the breaker. I need to install weather stripping to help prevent the excess water intrusion this should help a bit as well! Maybe I will stop at the auto parts store today.

My rule pumps are original equipment. The only thing I can figure, is that they run a lot, or get stuck on and burn out the motors. It would be odd for them all to do that though

I would have to assume I spent over $1000 on pumps over the years. It is what is it I know I have given them all a work out just cleaning the bilges but that is what they are supposed to do pump out water. I don't think any of my other pump popped breakers except the one in the garage the others would run but not pump water I would have to take them out tap them shake them and then they would work but if a bilge pump stops working I replace it unless it is something obvious like something stuck in it. If I don't trust it then it gets replaced. I feel the same way about my Kimber Solo carry I have lost confidence in it.

SO I believe I figured out the reason for the issue with my aft bilge pump. While in route for a weekend getaway I noticed my aft bilge light come on and stay on, I came off plane to investigate I crawled into the garage and found the pump running and mostly submerged. I removed the pump and inspected it and everything seemed fine but it was pumping out the water so it just stayed on and got hot. When I snapped the pump back in place it pump all the water out and turned off as it should. I Believe I have a rub rail leak they is allowing water into the garage only while I'm underway and the rub rail it getting blasted with spray. As I drove a little further the pump came on again and once again stayed on, this time I just slowed down came off plane and waited about a minute and the pump turned off, this happed two more times during my 2 hour trip. I was thinking there was a hole in the hose or a clog in the line but when I got to port I studied the setup and realized how stupid it was, The pump was installed forward of the float switch and as a result while on plane the float turns on before the pump has enough water to pump without sucking air. While on vacation I relocated the pump behind the float and it is now a little lower then the float during the ride home the pump turned on and off all is good when the boat is hauled I will reseal my rub rails which I hope will stop the issue.
