Heading down to Wildwood next weekend (8/2) and wondering if anyone has been there this season.

Anything I should expect or watch out for coming in Cape May inlet or heading up the ICW to Schooner?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

We have been trying to schedule a trip there for a few years now and just haven't been able to make it happen. If you do make it there I'd appreciate a full report complete with pictures!

Thanks in advance

I am participating in a small floatilla traveling there on August 8th for a stay of three days. Would be happy to take notes and report when I return. Although a returning day of August 12th may be too late for you.

Dave,

Thanks but looks like I will be there before you.

I stayed at Schooner for 3 nights last week. It is a great facility with fairly new floating docks, pool and nice ships store. People were very helpful and friendly. Fuel was reasonable so I filled up at $2.499 for diesel.

There were 3 restaurants next to the marina. We tried 2 of them both very good. Uries was more of a crab house but has a large deck with great views of the marina and a very good value. The other one (name excapes me) was a little higher end but excellent. It is the closest one to the marina.

The marina is about a 8 block walk to the boardwalk, maybe 3/4 mile. We walked it easily, the only problem if going to the beach is that the beach can be another 1/4 mile to the water. You have to go to the North end of the boardwalk for the water to be somewhat close to the action.

Our only challenge was that it was very shallow at low tide. We were on the North side of the fuel dock where the larger boats are kept. At low tide I was showing 2.6' under the hull. I had to put off our departure due to the low tide. Most locals didnt seem to let it bother them. The head boats and tour boats took off in front of us with no issues. You just have to hug the marina side of the channel. There is plenty of water coming into the East side of the Cape May inlet and the marina is a few miles north with plenty of water all the way to the marina.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the report Van but where are the pictures!

We're still here and I will post some next week.

The close restaurant is Beach Creek. We ate there and it is pricey but very good.

The marina gets two thumbs up. Very good staff. They put us in a slip without an available 50amp plug so they just loaned us a twin 30a to 50a smart Y adapter. Pool, ship's store, laundry facility and I'm told they will loan you bikes if you ask.

Really nice boaters on the docks as well.

We have spent some time with the dink just tooling around and it is very nice here. There is alot of marsh so when there is no wind the greenies can draw blood.

Looks like it goes on the repeat destination list for us.

Although, it was tough to get a transient slip for the week we travelled, we’re really glad we were able to stay at Schooners Island marina. It’s conveniently located close to beach, rides and walking distance nice restaurants. The facility is very clean and has fresh look to it. This is where you don’t have to think “do I take a shower on the boat or use marina showers”. Laundry machines looked as new and staying there for a week we had to use them, btw it’s very convenient having your laundry going while you enjoy the pool, which was also very nice and clean. It’s also hard to ignore the fact that people at the marina are very nice. Everyone is willing to have a conversation with you and share their local knowledge making you feel at home instead of an outsider.

Looking to maybe doing a trip next season to this marina, alot for kids to do, my parents have a house in wildwood so I'll have somewhere else to go if I get sick of sleeping on the boat NOT.
