Sea Tow or Boat US

I have had Boat US for the last ten years or so. I also see Sea Tow seems to be a little more active in helping boaters avoid problems by showing them the way.

Is one better than the other? I want to come in and learn Moriches inlet as I am going to be in Patchogue. Going east it will be a huge time saver.

I think both are very good... But I use Sea Tow for my pulling needs... ;0
 
I have TowBoat US. I've had them for years. Friends have had both. On the South Shore of LI I don't think you can go wrong with either tow company. Both are very well represented in our area. In 40 years of boating I have never heard a valid gripe about either tow franchise.
 
I have Seatow and never had a issue and they have always been good to me.
I did have 1 gripe after they lifted my boat after Sandy some expensive synthetic oil dissapeared from my boat an dmy bow anchor was gone. Though I can't specifically say it was them since there were others around working the job, it still annoyed me.

Either way, I will stick with seatow. Mostly because they are located in the AYC.

I would say go with whomever is closer to your home dock, since that gives you an added advantage.
 
Billy, I have had Boat us for as long as I have been boating . After Sandy and seeing how proactive Seatow was with buoy updates and willingness to help with storm damage I switched. Boat us has posted and done nothing that I can see ....

Good point Rob. If you look on facebook Seatow posts constant reports on the GSB. I also think they have more boats/offices.

I think for GSB Seatow is preferred vendor. Just my .02.
 
Reward the guys that do the most ... that's my thought .

Mind u I used BoatUS for my incident off Gilgo. The guy was top notch !

I switched from Boatus to seatow after seeing the updates on facebook and seeing how great there iphone app is.

I also think there coverage in the north fork is better.
 
Can't remember hearing anything negative about either one.
I have Boat US and am happy with them. My only experience with them so far has been when I was on other peoples boats, but the response was very quick and the guy was great.
Although I don't regularly use things like Facebook, I have been to their site and like the way that they have posted info on local conditions related to the storm. Not sure if that is a corporate policy, or one or two individual operators who are well versed in Facebook and have taken it upon themselves to do this.
Anyway, since I get that type of info from this site and others like it along with from conversations with other boaters, that alone probably wouldn't compel me to switch. Not that I think Boat US is any better, but they haven't done anything that warrants losing my business up to this point.

My primary is Sea Tow but the basic membership for BoatUS is so low that it pays to carry it as well in case you ever need them.

I agree with Rob and others that Boat US has been great when I had a problem. And I also agree Sea Tow has been more proactive pre and post sandy with guidance for channels we use. I am going to contact both and will update as to who is more help.

I have both. It is cheap enough and you can call who ever is closer. In some instances only one or the other might be available. And I not believe they are recipricol
 
I use Seatow and have been very happy with them as well. They are located at my marina so I've had an opportunity to speak with several of their captains and they've been a wealth of knowledge and help. Money well spent.
 
I just signed up for Sea Tow. Before I called asking questions, I felt I should pay for their services. I too will keep Boat US as a back up, it is cheap enough to have both.

You can't beat that. Two good services. I think both realize that their reputation is everything and conduct their business accordingly.
 
Been with Boat US for for over 15 years. Never really used them much until a few years back. Had to get a tow three times in one season. First time was offshore. They came out and guided me through the shinny inlet perfectly in tricky weather. Next two times were on my way in and then just after leaving Frank from Westhampton. On my way back they towed me all the way from just west of Westhampton to Massapequa! Two hand offs along the way and brilliantly done.

Agree with the others... both are very reputable. I just feel more comfortable with Boat US given my home port of Massapequa and their great coverage around here, plus all they did for me in two tricky circumstances.
