Last year I was able to lock through on my trip out east and back, this year the tides do not look to be as favorable and I will be running the locks open both ways.

I have read on the board the best time to go through the locks is when they first open but in reading the embassy guide today:

"When the tide gates are open, currents can make your trip south very fast and tricky. Currents of more the 4 Knots are possible right after the locks open. If you'd rather avoid this just wait an hour out two until the currents are manageble."

This contradicts what I have heard. Is the guide wrong here, do I want to go through right after they open?
