Because this January day is so bleak and except for our fortunate, tropical climate friends, most here miss heading out into the deep blue. I thought I'd revive fond memories of cruising offshore (or in bays & rivers) by starting a cruising photo thread - power or sail.

I shot a series of photos during an incredibly beautiful day, while motoring to Block Island this past summer. The wind was calm, sky bright and seas almost flat. Because of the light winds, our mizzen sail was up only as a stabilizer. This was a very relaxing cruise.

In the top photo, you may not pick it up with this reduced image,
but the Newport Bridge is visible on the left.
It's amazing how clear this day was, even from 15 to 20 miles offshore.
