I am getting ready to install the NSS12 evo 2. I know that Simrad had to eliminate the auto routing feature due to a lawsuit, however I have been told that if I install the Navionics chip, it will allow me to auto route using Navionics. Has anyone done this? Can you confirm that if I buy the chip I will be able to auto route?

I think you were misinformed, ...sort of . Auto-routing was finally added in the US to the Evo 2's with the last SW update last year .
Then there was the most recent MAr 2017 Evo2 update which added several functionalities , including Auto-routing upgrade to the better "Dock to Dock " Auto-routing version ....except... that particular upgrade item is ONLy for non-USA devices.

Much worse....for USA units it not only does not allow activation of Dock to Dock , it also completely removed ALL Auto-routing functionality the previous update had finally provided.

So, if you already have last August's(?) SW update installed presently and not the latest one , you might have the Auto-routing function with the Navionics Platinum + ,as long as you don't try to update to the Mar. 2017 version to get the other benefits ( i.e., such as viewing 2 sonar windows from 2 different transducers at once on the same unit.)

And I have no idea if this is the case, but it is possible the downloadable Aug. 2016 version may subsequently also have been jiggered to delete the Auto-routing function as well, dunno.

Buy the good Navionics Platinum + chart card by all means , but it won't allow any kind of Auto-Routing on any fully-updated Evo 2 units in the USA at this time.
