Edgewater 180 Dual Console...

We definitely plan on some coastal boating around the Northeast in addition to hitting lakes...

When I bought the boat it had an older depth sounder/fish finder and a Garmin GPSMap 276C that seems better suited to on road than marine...

Any suggestions on a good unit to replace them with? I'll need something with a transom mount transducer to replace what is there now. I do not have room to flush mount, so it's going to need to bracket mount it.

Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Personally, I would go with a Garmin 6" Echo Map simply because they are reliable and there is product support to repair them. You can get a transom mount transducer. There is plenty of chart choices from basic to Blue.

The Simrad Cruise7 is a great little unit. 7" screen and excellent interface.

Rocks are a concern in your area. Would a small lotter show them?

I'm not sure Bruce...most of the bigger lakes are pretty well marked, it's the coastal areas I am more concerned with.

I don't want something too small to easily see either, I don't want to divert my attention too much to focus on it.

You are correct they can grab your attention.

If you haven't tried ActiveCaptain on your phone for GPS, give it a shot, very impressive. This doesn't handle depth or fish finding but for GPS on a small boat, its good.
