Looking for some input. In the market for a small utility boat (smoker craft Canadian 12 footer) and motor combo (9.9 Merc 4 Stroke). Going to use the boat as a tender - visiting friends on a small inland lake. Is there a formula that determines how fast this combo will go? The boat is 110lbs, the motor is 84 lbs, no idea on cruise RPM or prop pitch, and normal load would be me, the mrs. and our dog (say 400 lbs total). If nothing else, anyone have experience if a 9.9 hp enough? If I go with a 15hp I have to increase the boat size to a 14' (the 12' boat is only rated for 10hp). Thanks in advance!
