I have a 2004 Sea Ray 260 with Smartcraft Diagnostics. I keep getting a trim fault warning but trim fluid is full and no noticeable problems with trimming the outdrive or trim tabs??
I too have smartcraft (or at least for a couple more days)I always get some sort of bogus warning or fault.
For me its the ambient tempreture.
I did noodle around the mercury marine website for additional information.
If you go there make sure you have all of your serial and model numbers because you can not look at any information without a long registration process.
I had the same issue with Smartcraft and twin Bravo IIIs. The guage sender needs adjusted. If smartcraft senses less than 0 trim position it sets the alarm off. I had to set mine to only go down to 3 on the hard so when the drives were under torque in gear they did not go past zero. Can be done in the water but it is not easy. The senders are round plastic things about the size of a 100 year old silver dollar on the side of the transom gimble mount. On land it is easy to see, there are two small phillips head screws on each sender to loosen slightly and rotate while someone is watching the Smartcraft screen.
The Smartcraft trim sensors must be prone to difficulties. My port side trim indicator "bounced" around between 0 and 6 for the entire trip to Key West recently. Only problem it creates is when the gauge is reading all of the false trim changes you are not getting a readout of the other engine / trip functions. Very annoying but I'm sure it is a warranty repair / replacement / adjustment matter.
Smartcraft gauges are great when they're "smart." Not so much when they're not.
