5 degree at 6am this morning. Sun came up & I saw smoke on the water. Geese & a swan trying to swim through slush & skim ice was a comical scene. Ice eater in, boat clear of ice. Started the engines yesterday to blow some of the ice away from the stern. Warmer weather tomorrow.

Dom Dom Dom... Dom Dom da dom.... Dom Dom Dom....

We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn't have much time

Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground, now

Smoke on the water
A fire in the sky
Smoke on the water

And Geese and swans trying to swim though the fire....

This is a long winter... ;-)

The fire dept was practicing ice rescues on my canal right in front of my neighbor's house yesterday. Ice looks pretty thick now.

John,
Did they have to cut thru or did it break when they went on it? Matzen says he has 6" of ice & Frevola said the bay is frozen across down by him. Remember, any waterfowl that get stuck in the ice are the stupid ones, survival of the fitest.

Andy,

By time I realized what was going on they were pretty much done so I didn't see much of the drill. They had a ladder down to the ice and lowered some sort of sled. They must have used that to get across the canal because I could see the track marks on the ice and then there was a squared off cut in front of my neighbor's dock except where they cut it. The ice didn't break at all. Not sure how thick it is at this point.
