I am looking to replace some of the solon lights in my 1985 3227. They are the off white barrel type shades that seem to be unique to Carvers. Anybody know where to find them?

Jim...they are not available any longer. The were actually white when new and yellowed with age. I've seen a few boats come through our dealership with replacement (all metal, painted white), but I have no idea where they were purchased. Try BoatFix, they may have a similar light.
 
I ran into the same problem with my 3607. I bought pin-up lamps and installed twist switch in each one. Total cost was under $20 per lamp. I bought 12v curly fluourescent bulbs that only draw 12-14 watts. They give a lot more light than the fixtures you are replacing and draw no more amps. If you Google White Finish Accent Light
(63401) and select the ones at LampUSA you will see the fixture. Had to drill hole for switches and two small holes for mounting.
 
Is the lamp you installed into the unit a DC or AC bulb? If it is a DC, where do you get them? It appears to be a standard base requirement.

If a 12 volt bulb will work in AC or DC please let me know that too. I am still confused by the whole AD/DC thing.

They make a 12v version of those bulbs(same voltage as the lights you are replacing). Check eBay or Google 12volt flourescent. They are expensive if you pay list price. West Marine had a close-out on them a couple years ago but they are availble on the internet. Amount of light is the same as you get from the 110v version. I like them.

I replaced ALL of those U-G-L-Y yellowed, cracked, and stained things Carver called "lights" when we refurbed the interior (mine were in AWFUL shape). Went w/ a halogen brushed nickel look so we would never replicate the prior experience again. Imtra was the manufacturer (I think you can google their site)... As I recall (5 years and a few beers ago) the most difficult part of the experience was some of the wiring proved to be "close to short on length" when crimping on the new stuff. We are happy with the new fixtures and have only had to replace a couple of bulbs since.
 
I replaced all my reading lights with a white euro-style lamp about 2 years ago. They're made in Marshall, Michigan at Progressive Dynamics. If I recall, I paid a bit under $20 each for the white. This company also makes other electrical products for the marine/RV industry. Since I live nearby, I picked them up at the plant. You'll have to visit the website for the phone/order info. They really 'update' the interior compared to the old 'yellowed' Carver lights.
