The admiral and I are working out the details for a week or so trip to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Travel would be by Watermakers Air out of Ft. Lauderdale.

Since the onset of some bloody heart issues a year or so ago, I have about six prescription pills to take daily. Is anyone familiar with the issues, regulations, procedures, whatever, to carry these in either direction?

Thanx for any input.

Kim

Watermakers is owned by the same people who own Staniel.

I would imagine that they are not going to be very hard on you in that way.

I know when we check in via boat, Bahamian Customs doesn't ask anything about prescription medications. Unless you're transporting cholera or dead rats, you'll be fine :-)

for any travel always carry original packaging showing prescription.

I am well aware of the common ownership of Watermakers and SCYC. They are hardly an issue.

My concern was with the CPB gestapo types on either end. From what Kurt indicates, the Bahamas end is no problem.

I've never personally had a problem. I've seen them tear a boat apart before, but they were looking for illegal fishing and or illegal (large quantity) drugs.

To be safe, call 1-800-BAHAMAS. They're in NYC, but if they don't know the answer, they'll transfer you to the islands. I really don't think you'll have a problem.

If you are required to take medication, you may carry only the amount you need for the flight in your carry-on bag. It should be in original packaging, along with the prescription.

I think I'd take all you need in the carry-on in case the rest of your luggage heads to Budapest or someplace less tropical :-)

We hope to be at Staniel sometime in June via boat...

Windows South are starting to open up!

We have never had an issue (knocking) and immigration has always been good to us. I carry enough for at least a 6 month stay and they are all in the original packaging.

Shouldn't be an issue either way as long as you have the original cintaniers with your name on it...

Of course if you come in with an attitude and calling them Gestapo, all bets are off, rightfully so

Pascal, roger that. My reason for asking the question was to avoid any problems.

I have found the Bahamians usually give as good as they receive. Treat them with respect, and magical tings* happen.

You'll be fine. Have a great trip!

*intentional :-)

My primary concern was on re-entering the states. There have been issues with people bringing drugs back, for example, from Mexico and Canada.

I'll take just enough for the trip in the prescription containers. The stuff that I take is hardly exotic.

Thanx for everyones input.

Mixman is right on. In the Bahamas, you reap what you sow.
