stingray

I currently a sailboater... don't hold that against me. But with an 8 yr old boy I want to take him skiing. After looking around, I really like the Stingray bowrider, 24 and 25 ft. However, I'm curious as to why you don't see many used stingrays and more importantly not any at all in South Florida. Is this boat best suited for lakes vs the bay?
