OK, I am still looking at this sea ray sun dancer, it has the 5.7 merc. the intake has some rust on it, but not much. But the exhaust has rust on it especialy the risers at the joints. the boat has a fresh water purge?? system. here is the pic of the engine. how bad does it look?

Looks tough. The bilge appears to have been scrubbed, however, look at the center beneath the engine. What is that?

Too much rust for me, especially at the riser bolts. That engine looks to have at least 20 years of wear on the outside. What is on the inside?

nuts, that was what I thought, it is only a '97 and it looks bad...

What is the rest of the boat like? You can get a long block 350 for a few thousand. Take that off the top. With that much rust, I would be concerned with stringer rot.

You do not mention the asking price. In today's market, you would be surprised at what you can get for relatively very little money.

Good Luck.

they are asking 11,000. how much are risers? it would be fun to re-power but... the wife wants something working

Risers...manifolds and blocks....for small blocks....will run you about $1100.00 for after market and $1900 for OEM....per motor....plus labor if you don't attemt to DIY.

Engine looks to be (RWC) Raw Water Cooled.
If your boating in salt, that may be a issue for you.

I plan to do a little salt only. 90% fresh water
double D where are you getting your parts? not to pry, just so I can look up other parts that might be needed
thanks for your help all of you!

I just changed my risers....manifolds...and blocks........on both my motors yesterday.....I let my mechanic buy the parts he needed to do the job. But they where purchased on Long Island.

Thanks, your help has really set me straight. The more I learn about this particular boat, the less I like it.

No excuse for an engine to look like that in that short a time period. I'd pass on thsi one unless you want to re-power soon. The rest of the boat can't be much better. PASS.
