This weekend out of nowhere I hit something submerged. Later it was determined that it was suspected to be a rope or a similar item and it shook loose while taking it to the mechanic. Boat was hauled and no damage spotted to any underwater gear. (I have inboards)

When I left the boat yard, I noticed that my Tachometer RPM's on my port engine was higher than my starboard, even at idle. So I made sure my engines were in-sync and my throttles were even. Everything seemed normal and the sound of engines also was normal. But I returned to the boatyard and they put a meter on the engines and I show an even RPM. They advised me to replace the Tachometer or just live with it. But it really bothers me to see the difference. Also, when they replace it, my port engine hour meter will start from zero as it is a combo RPM / hour meter.

It seems to me too much of a coincidence that this happened right after catching something on my props. But the Mechanic insists that it is and tach's do go bad.

Any advice would be appreciated.
