I have had some problems with my 2000 wellcraft 7.4LMPI and recently replaced the fuel pump and regulator. After getting the engine running well again, I noticed that the idle speed is at 1,000rpm and will not go lower. The engine does not sound like it is at 1,000rpm and I suspect it is at about 750rpm and the tach is going bad. At the top end, the engine now appears to run over 5,000rpm, maybe 5,200rpm. Before it would not get over about 4,700rpm so I think something has happened to the tach. I have the stock B3 drive with 22P props.
I used to cruise at 30mph ** 3,000rpm.... now the same 30mph taked about 3,700rpm. Fuel flow is the same at 11-12 GPH as it was before at the 30mph cruise so I am thinking the tach is bad. Anybody heard of this before?? TIA TBF
