Does anybody know anything about Tanyard Cove in Curtis Creek/Marley Creek? It looks like a nice anchor spot, but there's a marked wreck at the mouth.

Seems like a nice quite place. There will often be several boats that have beached onto the little sand bar the extends into the mouth of Tanyard Cove. Water-skiers and tubers often pass by on Curtis Creek but the cove seems to stay smooth.

We have anchored overnight there a couple of times, most of the other boats did not spend the night.

I watched the sonar closely when entering the cove and saw no evidence of the wreck on the chart.

Thanks, Mike. I'm trying to find a somewhat secluded anchorage within the Patapsco basin for early & late season use. If the winds are up, not having to cross the Bay is a big bonus.

Another spot I'm considering for this weekend is near the golf course/country club on Bear Creek.

One of our favorite spots is the little cove north of Gibson Island just off Sillery Bay. Always calm and mostly deserted this time of the year.

I know the spot. I've had the locals waterski around me way, way too many times all afternoon.

Maybe we aren't talking about the same place. From Sillery Bay if you head east through the 6 knot area heading for the Gibson Island Yacht Club there is a small cove on your right. Some of the charts call it Eagle Cove. I have never seen a water skier or any fast moving boats in Eagle Cove.

The only bad experience we had there was one time when we were riding out a thunderstorm. Our boat was doing fine, but a couple of sail boats started dragging anchor and got fairly close to us before they got themselves under control.

I keep my boat just across from Tanyard cove and know the area well. Next to the cove is a private mens club i belong to, so we get out in the cove almost every weekend. It's deep water way back but be sure to go around the sandbar to get there. The backside of the bar is very deep, so deep you can actually dive right off it over your head. Back by the bar is great for avoiding the winds.

I used to use the Anchor Bay East yard on Bear Creek right across from the golf course spot you referred to. That's where my boat was when I bought it and got surveyed and we had them do a lot of the work over the years. Nice spot, but there is a fair amount of train traffic across that drawbridge when the Sparrows Point steel mill is cranking. If you have a dink, there is a cool float with a picnic table on it in the middle of the cove and Anchor Bay has a nice little cafe (The Hard Yacht Cafe); in season music and tiki bar action. Lots of fond memories. What was the name of that boat-to bar up one of the offshoots of Curtis Creek? Or was it Stoney Creek? Lots of action.

You may be refering to Reckless Ricks, which is on Furnace creek. Not my favorite place, crowded and hard to get service but the food is good.
As for Bear creek, i have hooked it a few times across from the Hard Yacht after a night of drinking there. There's a small cove next to the golf coarse that;s not very deep but works overnight. You will be woken in the morning from the crabber guys, they get mad because they claim that space for themselves. FYI, the floating pier is gone....

That's the place. We had some locals water ski in circles around us there the other year. Thankfully, it was early in the year and the water was around 50 degrees. It only took the idiot falling in 3 or 4 times before they made a quick run to shore.

We decided to give Bear a try. It was nice to have a short trip over and back in south winds and be able to stay in the river. The floating picnic table is surely gone as I didn't see it and I know where it used to be. We stayed just outside of the cove across from Anchor Bay. The crabbers were there, so I stayed away from their pots, waved as they went by and didn't have an issue with them. We were the only boat there EXCEPT for the 3-boat raft-up that came late and too close for my comfort. Really? 1 boat in an anchorage and they have to come right next to me? I think my boat might be magnetic :-)

A reason i prefer Tanyard, room to spread out. it's pretty quiet this time of year and plenty privacy as there are no houses anywhere near it.

Reckless Ricks, that's the place.

Sorry to hear about the picnic table and float. The only people I ever saw use it were kids in small runabouts. But it looked cool. All in all, good memories. I lived there at Anchor Bay for a month or so after I bought my boat, and then we always stopped there for something or other on our way to and from New England.. Look forward to getting back to that routine.

I remember a few years back meeting other boating friends on Bear creek. We decided to stop at the bar by Wise avenue and we walked a few blocks to a seafood place where we bought a bushel of crabs. We took them and a case of cold ones out to the float and had a great time. We ended up staying there for the entire night. That was the last time we were on the float and honestly i don't know who even owned it, but i'm guessing the marina...
