That Smell

jermey and others, no real update. The dealer asked me to submit the problem I was having via email, to forward to Regal. I have not heard anything from them. At this point, I have placed passive charcoal filters in the engine compartment, forward shower sump and head. The smell has gotten better. While in dock I will plug in a Ionic Breeze and let it run all night. The smell has not been as bad at night since I have kept all vents, windows open. However, when summer comes and it is time to run the AC, I will close the boat up. I just hope the smell is not bad. Of course I have this feeling it will be back. Its just very disapointing to have a brand new boat and have this type of issue. I have spoken to other new boat owners, they have not had any problems with odors. At this point just trying to enjoy my boat.

You should get someone more familiar with boats to sniff and determine if it a new boat smell or something else.

Time to get a surveyor involved. Protect you interest!!!

nph, what would a surveyor be able to do or help with? I have never used this a surveyor in the past. Of course I have never bought a boat larger than 19feet. Does a surbeyor have the ability to identify funky odors or resin smells?

One would hope that a surveyor, would know enough about boats to track down where this oder is coming from. If it is uncured resin, there is a weak spot on the boat, and the surveyor will be able to find and document that. Most off all a surveyor will give an "indepentant assement of the condition of the boat" where as the owner is going to give his opinion.
