A friend has received word today that their offer to purchase a 1999 290 SeaRay has been accepted. They are quite excited. First boat of this size for them and of course offer being subject to Survey and water test.

In approximate dollars, what would be the cost to have the Thermal Imaging including in your typical survey? Maybe few surveyors have access to this technology yet?

Would anybody have a Surveyor that they would recommend in the Sarnia Ontario Canada or Port Huron Michigan USA area?

I also am interested in replies to this question, as we have been fortunate in this market to have sold our 30' Doral Prestancia and are presently searching to find a suitable replacement that will require a survey as well.

Thanking you in advance for any reply.......

Mike.

Thermal Imaging on a 290 Sea Ray would be $275.00. It includes the hull, engines and wiring in many cases. This price is in addition to the fee of a Pre-Purchase Survey.

So the cost for T.I. is roughly $10.00 a foot extra, thanks for the information. What if a pre-purchase client rejects the extra cost of the T.I., do you still use the T.I. on the hull to help you determine condition?

L.Keith,

It depends. In some cases there is no other way to inspect the hull on a later model vessel.

You can also check hot spots on electrical connections with an infared temp. gun, but you won't see the big picture. You just see the spots you point the red dot at.
