My 1999 Merc 4.3 are due for riser replacements. According to my mechanic they are actually over due.
My engines have the single peice riser/manifold which Merc is now replacing with the 2 peice kit. I guess this creates a little more work. Cost from my mechanic is $1,600 per engine parts are labor (total $3,200 for twins).
He mentioned their are 2 kits available. 1 Cheaper kit which requires the enignes to be pulled or at least raised and the 2nd (more expensive) kit which can be installed with less labor. His quote of $1,600 is for the more expensive kit requiring less labor.
Do you guys think this price is in line? Is this something I could do myself. I am not a mechanic and do not regulary maintain my boat but if I could save a $1,000 and invest a weekend if it may be worth it.
Thanks for your feedbaclk.
