I have a Silverton 330 sport bridge with a large "windshield" that looks good from the outside but is nothing more than a skylight on the inside. This is a common feature on Silvertons and other models. Since it gets real hot in the summer, I have a canvas cover as do many others...I'm tired of dealing with it.

I was wondering if there is a window tint that would keep the heat of the sun out while letting some light in. Something semi-transparent would be fine.

I see some 3M products online, does anyone have any experience with these? I'd rather not have the mirror look if possible.

From what I see on cars, I think you would be best served by having it professionally installed. Problem with this, though, is finding a tint installer that will come to the boat.

Chris, the guy who owns the boat next to me had his windows tinted this summer. I will see if I can get the contact info for the guy who did it.

Thanks Mike, I will call him.

Steve - I agree, professional install needed

Living in Arizona I have all the windows on my truck limo tinted but the truck would still get hot so I had the windshield tinted with a clear UV tint and it greatly reduced the heat in the truck.

Might be a good application for your boat as well.

Look into ceramic tint which prevents the heat transfer of the sun shining on it. I am planning to do my 41C in the spring.

I ve had a product called V Cool installed on the forward windows of the enclosed FB of the boat i run. It doesn’t affect night vision which is critical but really cuts the heat. Not cheap though

This "windshield" is not used for viewing, I have no lower helm and it is about 8' up from the cabin floor.

Sam has been around for a very long time I think his son runs the business now, he has done work for several times does good work!

If you tint the window, would you not still be visible to passers by on the dock when your interior lights are on after dark?

Can't see into my neighbor's boat after he got the tint.

Interesting. There’s one down the he dock from my power boat that appears tinted in the daylight but is semi transparent in the dark. Perhaps it operates similarly to photogrey glasses.

Better be careful.. some years ago I went to hire a guy to tint the windows on a 36 footer.

He told me that it was against the law to tint the front "window" in a boat. Side is OK. Believe that he said it was a CG regulation

I had all the windows in the cabin of my Silverton tinted professionally with 3M Ceramic tint. I wasn't after a security tint, but wanted to decrease the heat transfer. So far, extremely pleased, looks great, and definitely cooler in the cabin. AC is working more efficiently as was my goal. All 11 windows (door slider inc) for about $1200.
