I'm looking to catch some monsters. I know it's early so what are choices in the huge selections? Tile is a little small? I want everybody to have a good time. Tuna?
Tuna don't show up in the northern canyons until sometime in August. We will be targeting stripers and bluefish near Raritan Bay in a few more weeks - early May. Right now there are winter flounder in the back bays and small stripers are beginning to show.
We subscribe to an Offshore Water Temp website that graphically shows how the eddies are forming off the gulf stream. Two years a go we were the only boat at Tom's about 1 mile off the wall catching yellowfin like crazy. All the other boats stayed on the wall and did nothing. Water temp charts made a huge difference for us.
NJ Winter Flounder Regs - The minimum size limit for winter flounder is 12 inches. For winter flounder the open season is March 23 to May 21. The possession limit is 10 fish per angler per day.
Maybe the fishing needs to wait a few more weeks as it's still too darn cold? For some reason, this just feels like a really long Winter>>>>>>>>
I'm hoping to get the boat back in the water by end of next week. My "crew" is chomping to get out and fish for stripers. I figure early May near the Varazanno as the stripers returning from the up-river spawn should be making their way back out to sea around then....
