Hi all,

I have a 2005 33 SS. We love the boat but it gets really hot on the cockpit with the sun, especially in my current slip in the afternoon. Almost unusable for us. I have been looking for a way to have a canvas cover installed that will not ruin the looks of my boat but will provide shade. I would like it to be a fold up as I do not want it permanently deployed.

A picture of my boat is at http://69.251.104.232/boat/turbowarp.jpg . Has anyone done something like this?

Thanks!

Get an "anchor shade" and a mount on the railing.

Use some patio shade material from a home store and mount to the arch and transom for an inexpensive test, it comes in several colors. If that makes a big difference then you can make more permanent addition. Perhaps the best answer will be something like a roll up screen that you only deploy when onboard.

Turbo,
In your slip you don't have to deal with boat swinging on anchor so is it from one side or directly from stern? Do you have a Harbor Freight or similar place where you can by an inexpensive mesh tarp, usually green to see if it blocks enough sun/heat. Once you know what you like you can have custom canvas or Phifertex mesh curtain made to match the rest of your "decor".

nice boat don't ruin it with a patio umbrella

Moor it in the creek where I do and hang out under a tree until the sun goes down :) ...

Dave,
I don't know, with a few left over Christmas lights, Turbo could really dress up his ride in a redneckish way...

We're in somewhat the same situation as you, except we are in a covered boathouse but there are slips only on one side, ie - there's a walkway and all the slips are on one side (versus a walkway down the middle and slips on both sides of the walkway). The kick is that we are "blessed" (and cursed) with the Texas afternoon/evening sun for a few hours...it can get BLAZING hot...it's nice sometimes when you are hanging on the walkway/deck but it gets sweaty FAST. One of my slipmates is going to put up some suncloth type of material behind his slip and we'll see how that does. On the upside though, we get GORGEOUS sunsets off the cockpit/walkway and we are not staring at the stern of another boat...always tradeoffs!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all of the replies. You all had good ideas about getting something temporary to see if it works and then having something custom made. I am going to try that. I took my bridge canvas in to a canvas guy to re-sew the zippers and we spoke a little. He is too far away to come to my boat to do work. Once thing I am thinking about is to place something like a bimini inverted U shape that will fit between the arches when not deployed. Then I would swing it down when I wanted to use it and somehow secure it with bimini type straps. I will try something temp first to see what I need.

Comments?

Thanks !

Post a stern shot. Side shot does not show much. I may have an idea for you.

Trying to figure out how. Can I upload an image? I don't have access to the web server right now.
