I bought my boat 2 yrs ago and i primarily trailer it back and forth between orange county NY and the Long Island Sound. When i bought the boat i thought i had all the paperwork, but when i went to register it i did not have what i needed to register the trailer(the boat title transfer was fine). DMV said i needed a registration card for the trailer, which i didnt have-previous owner gave me a form MV-52 for the trailer that listed the original owner transferring it to him( i guess he never registered it himself), and i thought this would work.
Is there anything i can do as the original owner is no-where to be found?
What are the penalties for driving around a trailer thats "unregistered" and probably not mine on the books...I havent had a problem yet but i wanted to make things right with the DMV.
