We have a 25 foot / 6,000 lb cruiser that we are trailering this year. We have had a couple of problems with the trailer (the trailer is a 2002 Eagle, the boat a 2003), the latest of which is the Winch snapped just below the sewing at the hook after pulling out of the ramp this past weekend. We use a combination of powering on the trailer/winching. I winch while my wife is powering on.
To replace the strap, it looks like the strongest strap I can find is rated to 5,000 lbs tensile strength. Is this enough to pull up a boat that weighs more than that, since it is a combination of power and winching? I have seen larger boats than ours on trailers, so I wasn't sure if I was missing something with the physics of it, or some trick to getting it on the trailer. It is a bunk trailer. Thanks for your help!
