I'm looking to buy this boat and I heard there are a lot of Trojan owners on this site. It's a 1983 30 FT Trojan Sedan Cruiser with newer Yanmar diesel engines. The boat looks to be in very good shape and I'm going to take a look at it this weekend.
I'm looking for any information good or bad about early 80s Trojan boats. Like how good they handle seas and if they have any major issues.

Thanks

Ken

I would "think" some things would vary by model. More specifics would help.

I think leaks around the windows causing related problems was a common issue with that-era Trojan boats, so you might ask your surveyor to look for that. But any good experienced surveyor would either already know most common issues or have good resources for lists of Trojan items to check well.

There is a trojanboats(dot)net forum which would likely be a source of information as well.

I'm familiar with most of the Trojan F series. It's a nice boat for the size. It certainly didn't come with the Yanmars. Dependent on year, it most likely came with small block Chevys or Chrysler 318. Some may also have come with Mercruisers.
Lots of owners of this model on the site Sandy mentioned.

Most of the Trojan owners here are Trojans other then the name.
The Older Trojan had a great reputation! Being this boat has been repowered it may be a great deal it the price is right.

Probably has the Yanmar diesel 4 cylinder series, some were turbocharged.

these engines are phenomenal and a great companion for this size F series boat.

if someone invested the time and money to go diesel, chances are the boat has other upgrades.

these situations are generally a "distress" sale, either financial reasons or in most cases where a diesel refit has been done, health reasons forcing the sale.

There's a lot involved here, check out Bob Benton's repower of a similar sized vessel:

Thank you for all the replies.
I went yesterday to look at the boat and pretty much the Yanmar diesels were the only good thing
about this boat. Everything besides the engines
needs to be upgraded. I'm pretty much looking for a 30 -34 footer that I don't have to do a ton of work on, this one would require one to two years of work and a lot of dollars.
Oh well, just keep looking.

Ken, I might have what you are looking for. Look at the boats for sale section Sunrunner
