Will be making a second trip to Atlantic City in August (1st one is this week).

For the August trip, I am thinking to extend it by leaving early and stopping somewhere for 2 nights on the way. We were in Brielle last week and I'm looking for other alternatives that are fairly easy in and out to the ocean.

I grew up going to Beach Haven on LBI and that has an appeal but I'm afraid of Barnegate and the ICW with a 4.5' draft. Then continuing south to AC seems a bit scary with the shoaling at Little Egg.

Shark River?

Any suggestions?

We came in through Barnegat two days ago, it was an interesting experience. We have 4'+ draft. The channel is pretty well marked. We stayed at Ocean Beach Marine Center in Lavallette.

We anchored out at Tice's Shoal. Not much water and we pull 3.5. Maybe spending a nite in a marina and a nite on the hook would work out if the weather is good.

we have had large trawlers stay at our marina while doing the great loop.
Had a 60+ Marlow come in last weekend.
Three miles from Barnegat Light, returant, pool, fuel - full service.

I would do Shark River inlet (not sure of Marina's in there, but we stayed at one a few years ago and it was very nice) and then if you are OK staying out on the hook, a stay at Sandy Hook. There are several great anchorages and it is a beautiful spot.

My home port is in Shark River. A nice marina with transient slips is the Belmar Municipal Marina. Floating cement docks and clean restrooms and showers. Walking distance to the beach and lots of restaurants close by. Fuel there is some of the lowest cost around. Only issue is that there are 2 bridges that you will need to have opened for you. The inlet - channel 13 hail "Shark Ocean Ave Bridge" is an on demand bridge. If others are also approaching, you may have to wait a few minutes. Inside is the "Shark Route 71 Bridge" which is on the hour and half hour during the weekend hours of 9am - 9pm and weekdays from 4pm - 7pm. Otherwise they will open for you upon request but they also need to coordinate with the NJ Transit Rail Bridge that is just to the west. The rail bridge is usually in the up position except when a train is coming. Also, FYI - you still need to request an opening even during the scheduled lift times, as they only open when boaters request the opening. Once through the bridges bear to port. You will come upon the head boats (party boats) and then the transient slips will be just in front of you. Gas dock is just past the transient slips. Unless there's a storm brewing, I take the ocean route to AC.

Thanks Sandy.

My wife has pretty much decided she would rather that we just get to AC 2 days earlier since we have a party on that Saturday.

So it's 5 nights in AC.
