"Boynton man pleads guilty to bogus call

Staff report
Posted August 22 2006

A Boynton Beach man pleaded guilty in federal court in Miami to making a bogus distress call to the Coast Guard, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Monday.

Robert J. Moran's June 11 call sparked a 48-hour search off the Boynton Beach Inlet. In a calm voice, Moran, 45, told emergency dispatchers his 33-foot boat, a Grady-White called the Blue Sheep, was taking on water and that eight other people were aboard, including four children and his injured wife.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 30 before U.S. District Judge Joan A. Lenard, who could sentence Moran to up to five years in prison and order him to pay a criminal fine of more than $250,000 and to reimburse the Coast Guard for the search, which cost more than $347,000."

Glad to see they are doing something with the man.

Yes, Sandy, he is a moron. You'd think a guy who owns a 33' Grady would be a little more knowledgable. He's going to pay dearly for that stunt.
