It's been a few years since we went to the Severn to watch the Blue Angels during the Naval graduation. I checked the schedule and see 5/21 (Wed) as a date and 5/23 as a fly by. They used to always have the practice on Sat and the official show on Sun the w/e before Memorial Day.
Does anyone have any information as to this years schedule?
Thanks!
(if you've never been, it's awesome!)

The practice is Tuesday 5/20 with show Wednesday 5/21. The flyover on Friday 5/23 is for graduation.

We plan to go out for the practice show since you get the whole show without the crowds. :D

This will be my first time - any suggestions for good spots to watch from?

I'm supposed to go on the 20th. My buddy went last year and he say you need to go up the Severn and be there before 10am when the police shut down further traffic. Not sure what time the practice starts.

They arrive on the 20th at around 11am, and then go to Andrews for lunch, returning at 1:45 for practice. Up the Severn is OK, but they fly a little higher there to clear rt. 50 bridge ( Severn Rv. Br.) so the closest is on the line between Greenberry Pt. and Horn Pt. They are still at min level, and ready to thrust up.
They turn right over our house ( Fishing Cr,) with afterburners on to keep altitude. Not one of the dogs favorite days!

I can't think of a better place to be than your property for the show. Once I was a guest at one of the homes at Ferry Farms. Wow!

Thanks for the great info. I don't think my schedule will allow me to go this year. I preferred the practice day vs the actual show in the past. We anchored off of the towers in the entrance. We did see a lot of people anchored further up by the bridge only to get kicked out before the show. We had a Catalina sailboat come in under sail while the wind was blowing right before the show, cut right across our bow and caught our anchor line with their rudder. Well, as the jets were flying right above, I was letting anchor line out (ended up with 300' out) while my wife and Mother in law were holding us off of the *^&%#! sailboat which still had sails up. Finally had to ‘order’ the captain (I use that word loosely) to jump in and untangle us as they had no idea what was going on. Then after the show, a 50'+ Predator passed us about 10' off our beam while trying to get on plane. Got hit with a 7' wake thought we were going over (we were in a 42 footer then).
If we were able to go, we would stay further out and not anchor. They come up the Chesapeake and turn up the Severn. Really not a bad spot anywhere.
I will never anchor in the mix again.
Definitely worth the trouble though! What a rush!

I think everyone is getting wise to the practice day. Last year the practice day seemed just as crowded as the actual show. It is quite a spectacular event if you get the chance to see it.
