Should any of you be interested, tomorrow the USS Texas (Battleship Texas) will be moving from its current location at the San Jacinto Battleground State Park down the Houston ship channel to a dry dock facility in Galveston. There will be live stream video throughout the voyage.
See the link below for viewing information.

This guy gives a great breakdown of the Texas' history.

Actually, he has a lot of hilarious videos...

Why the move? Are they dry docking to repair a problem?

Yes, dry dock to repair then relocate to a more suitable tourist area. As you probably know it has been berthed in the Pasadena/Deer Park refinery industrial area which severely limits tourist traffic since there's nothing else to draw them to the area.

It has been around 50 years since I visited the Texas. It was in the Pasadena industrial area then.

My memory may be faded. I thought that I remembered that ship having a wooden deck. Something I read referred to an armored deck.

Seems it needs major repairs. Millions of dollars. They were pumping water out of it with huge pumps. Not the Rule pump in my boat.

The deck is probably teak. When we toured the Missouri, we were told it was partly to help with heat inside the ship (insulation) as well as safety in case something is dropped on the deck, no metal to metal contact.

That Big Mo is really something. It just exudes power. It was really a good day when I was able to board it.

I have always loved battleships. I have passed the Alabama many times and always say I would visit it. Now that is too late as I cannot go up\.down any steps.

I pass thru Mobile 4 times a year thinking I'll visit USS Alabama, still haven't done it.

Grandkids love running RC Big Mo in the pool. 😎
