How's verizon cell service in Nassua or plan Bahama's.
I will be sailing over to Bahama's and to nassua to pickup my wife who will fly over to spend about a week on the boat with us so will we be able to talk with our cell phone when she gets off the plane and we wait on the sailboat in Nassua.

There is Batelco (Batelcell) service all over the place (I just got back from the Abacos). You'll need a global phone so you can roam. However, you're not going to want to talk much as rates are $1.99/minute.

check with V before leaving... Naomi has verizon and had issues using her phone there, even after she requested international roaming. I have ATT and it works fine but regardless of which carrier you use, roaming is expensive... $2.6 I tink with ATT, and 0.50 per outgoing text.

you're better off buying a bahamian phone for about $50 and buy prepaid cards... you can get one in bimini on your way from FL

I bet Naomi doesn't have a VZW "Global" phone, but a CDMA-only one instead. There is "some" CDMA coverage in the Bahamas, but most of it is GSM which explains why your AT&T phone had service and my Global VZW phone also did. But you're right, pre-paid SIM cards are the way to go for voice. The phone can be purchased at Walmart though. Anything that's unlocked and designed for T-Mobile or AT&T will work. Just purchase the prepaid SIM cards once across the stream. I could have put a Batelco SIM in my VZW PDA if I needed, but we use the sat phone for voice and the PDA for data.

We have a global phone, and we would have been better off getting a sim card for it. It hooked up fine, but I was going to have to get involved with Batelco, and I bailed out since we were using Skype. Next year I may get it unlocked and get a sim card for it and have Skype call forward to it.
