Drained my outdrives last year and had no issue with the drained fluid. I did however have to heat one of the forward props to get it off. My guess is that I damaged the prop seal because the fluid was milky when I drained it this year. I also did not replace the o ring on the drain plug or the dip stick, which I probably should have.

My question is how big of a job is the prop to replace? Do I need a special tool or am I better off letting my mechanic do it? Also I am assuming I need to flush out the outdrive with something to remove the water. What should I use for that?

Looked at my '96 Manual, there are 4 prop seals, 2 on/in each prop shaft. looks to be rather involved in the removal of the small seals. I think I would just remove the drive and deliver to shop to have it washed, resealed then vacuum and pressure tested. When was the last time they were removed and the u-joints greased and the bellows replaced/checked.

Probably been a while. Just bought it last year but based on some issues that I’ve already corrected, previous owner not on top of things. Mechanic backed up closing marina and winterizing and wants to deal with it in the spring so I will probably flush out with transmission fluid and drain this year.
