I would love to find a class at a college or Vo-Tech that would teach me general maintenance for my boat engine. I am not mechanically inclined and have always relied on my dealer to service the engine. I would love to be able to winterize and spring commission the boat by myself in an effort to save a few dollars but primarily in order to know how to diagnose basic problems if I ever get stuck out in the water.

I have checked with my local county college but they do not have anything. I would think that if anyone held such classes, they would likely be at schools near the shore.

If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks.

Buy the repair manual for your year and engine and read it cover to cover. I did this 7 years ago and have been doing my own maintenance/repairs since. I order all OEM parts online from MPE (the initials of the co., they're in Maine, google them)

I had volvo 480's and took a diesel maintaince course in Annapolis School of Seamanship. Great course only two days, worth every penny. They had engines to work on and also cut away engines to see how things really work. Steve

If I recall correctly Ocean County College or the Vo Tech had them at one time. This may be a streatch, but I believe George Fuller of Fuller Marine in Bayville tought some of the courses. Maybe a call would be worth while? (732) 736-0444
