I have a 1982 Taiwanese made Trawler.
The original Wagner B1 dual helm steering pumps P/N 300-0008

My upper helm has developed a serious leak, and I am not sure where.
When I bought the boat last year the old owner told me it had a "small leak', lol

In 4 days we are on our way out for a two week extended cruise over the July 4th week end.
The boat is not drive able in its current condition......
My questions are has anybody heard of service bulletins or history with these pump failures ?
Do you know where they fail and how to fix them ? Of course they have out lived there design intent of over thirty years.

I am a very handy guy and do all of my own work, is it possible to just swap the B1 helm pumps ?
I would bring the good lower helm pump to the upper station and cap off the lower helm hydraulic lines until I got the leaking unit rebuilt or replaced.

Could I be over simplifying this solution ?

I ordered the seal rebuild kit from a NJ distributor. Great over night delivery but it came with NO INSTRUCTIONS or exploded view ?
I called them today and the response was that they expect the mechanic to know how to do it !!!!

Unbelievable..............
Has anybody rebuilt a Wagner B1 helm pump and can offer tips or an exploded view of it.

I have rebuilt Hynautic pumps before but never a Wagner.

Thanks, I saw that diagram and it is better than nothing. I was optimistically hoping for more. The Hynautic rebuild kit was very thorough with step by step instructions, pics and helpful hints.

DON'T LOOSE THE BALLS !!
