To Whom it may concern,
My wife and I spent the month of April 2008 in Eleuthera, Bahamas and moared our Carver in Hatchet Bay.
We had the opportunity to meet a handful of great people sailing the seven seas, living the live of leasure and fulfilling their life time dreams.
The common denominator with these people was that they read on the internet about marinas , restuarants and stores that just plain do not exist here anymore.
For your imformation as lovely and quiet as Hatchet Bay is the following is what is available. Remember this town is a small village and it still shows signs of past hurricanes.
There are a few moarings, existing dock and limited slip space. The cut to enter the bay is, as I remember, at least 15 feet deep. At most times the bay is calm enough to assure safe keeping during high winds and rough seas.
There is NO marina anymore, however, a short walk around Alicetown and Hatchet Bay you will find Triple T grocery store owned and operated by the Pinders of Rainbow Bay...great people. You will also find a small one pump gas station and small hardware store..no deisel fuel. You will find the Lutra Water and Ice store and the Internet Cafe where I hear they serve up a pretty fair burger, etc.
We found the people to be very friendly and if you feel the need to spend time at church there are at least 6 churches in town...always time for the Lord. We recommend Pastor Lambert Farrington at ST. Stevens church on the beautiful Carribean Sea. Service starts at 11 am on Sunday and you will be treated like royality....we were.
So thats about it from Eleuthera, have a safe trip and remember, never put all your faith in the internet, updates are important.
