Was wondering if any of you salty dogs have had any experience with The West Hampton Bath and Tennis Hotel and Marina?
I am attending an event there and was considering bringing the boat and making it into a little 4 or 5 day weekend thing.
I will most likely be coming from Babylon (LIYC).
Can I stay on the inside the whole way?
About how long of a ride? (slow cruise 15 to 18 knots i guess)
fueling along the way?
or any other issues you may think of.
I have never been further east than Davis Park. looks like it could be tricky through the Mastic and Moriches area. This is unchartered territory for me.
Is it clearly marked?
I have a Command Bridge, single sterndrive.

There are many others more experienced with the areas than me but take a read through the Moriches thread posted here. There are a series of markers that the coast guard has removed due to shoaling.

You can stay inside the whole way. You should follow the threads about the Moriches bay which will be your biggest challenge. Once past there you are good to go. The only other place is by Bellport heading down to Smiths Point Bridge, the water can get skinny and a narrow channel in some spots. If you want to fuel up, there is SS3 just north of the WHB B&T so you should be fine. But also should be able to do a round trip easy without re-fueling. I do that all the time with my 320 Sea Ray.

We have never stayed at the Bath and Tennis club but we have spent several weekends at the West Hampton Beach Town Dock. The trip from Babylon (LIYC) will take about 2 hours of running time at 18 knots. You stay on the inside the whole ride. As for fuel, just east of the WHBTC (before the second bridge) is a Surfside marina that has a gas dock. Your only concern will be getting past the Moriches Inlet. There is a lot of shoaling in the area of the inlet and that area can be tricky. Once the season gets going, there will be a lot of info here on how to navigate the Moriches area. There is plenty to see and do past Davis Park. Do you keep your boat docked at the LIYC?
 
LIYC is the Long Island Yacht Club. Babylon. The docks are under construction as they were damaged in the hurricane. The project is a couple of weeks behind schedule but I expect will be done by June.(so they say) Should be nice when its done. This will be my first year there. Not sure if my family will utilize the club or not. But I will give it a try. If they like it...wonderful, if not. See Ya.

As always thank you all for the help. I will search those threads and hopefully get a better idea of the area.

A bit pretentious!!!!! That's rich. The name of the place promotes bathing and smacking a fuzzy ball inside a rectangle before you go to bed.....OH....they have a place for you if you have a boat.

Sounds like a place where Thurston Howell III would be a plank owner. :D
 
Hey Joe--Welcome to the LICY. We have been members there for the past 9 years and have enjoyed every season there. It turns out that I happen to be the Fleet Captain of the Club for the past 5 years and our 2012 Cruising schedule was just posted on the Web site. If you don't get involved with the politics you should enjoy it very much. The new docks are coming along great and it will be one of the nicest marinas on the south shore. For anybody that is looking for a destination for a weekend, give me a shout out. This year the LIYC is going to allow transients to visit for $65 a night plus electric.

Joe Yes.. Just the kidder in me... I was there for 9 years and held positions as Dock Chairman, Membership and Rear Commodore...

It was good times and good friends.
 
I have never visited Bath and Tennis by boat but I understand there can be 3 knot current at the entrance that can make docking a bit tricky.

We stay at the Town Dock and have always been very happy. Frank the dock master is the best.

Originally my concern was navigating through The moriches. Now, after reading the other threads and comparing the pros and cons between the WHBTHM and The town Dock, I'm pretty sure it would make more sense for me to stay at The WHBTD. I think it would be easier to access town, resturaunts,etc. if i plan to stay a few days. I can always arrange transportation to and from the hotel for the event. As far as navigating through the Moriches, looks like it should be no problem if I put my captains hat on and pay attention. Appreciate all the help.
 
Keep in mind it's Westhampton, you can bring a car out there.
Nice free parking at town dock.
We have stayed at WHBTD and friends had cars and it makes it easy to go to beach or shopping.
Town is a short walk as is the tennis club.
Sounds like Moriches is tricky again but just watch the buoys and with sterndrive should be no issue.
Also know height of boat as there are low bridges that will open when you get close if the bridge op thinks you need it.
Sometimes they don't open unless you call or they have a few boats.
